To raise awareness among the younger generation about environmental protection and the challenges posed by climate change, the Rajshahi district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a tree plantation and sapling distribution programme involving children in Rajshahi.
The event was held on Monday at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in Saheb Bazar, Rajshahi city.
The Chief Guest at the programme was Rafiqul Islam Robi, general secretary of Rajshahi Metropolitan Jubo Dal.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “In this challenging era of climate change, there is no alternative to afforestation to protect the planet. The initiative taken by Bashundhara Shuvosangho involving children is highly commendable. Today’s children will be tomorrow’s leaders, so it is essential to develop environmental awareness among them from an early age.”
Children and adolescents aged between 7 and 15 from different parts of Rajshahi city enthusiastically participated in the programme. As part of the initiative, participants received saplings of various environmentally friendly plant species. The children also took part in planting trees within the Shaheed Minar premises.
Among those present were President of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Rajshahi district unit Zulfiqar Ali Haider; General Secretary Sumaiya Haque; Joint General Secretary Saiduzzaman Sabuj; Joint Organising Secretaries Sheikh Ahmed Sajid and Farhana Sultana Priya; Office Secretary SM Alfaz Nayan; Finance Secretary Tahsin Sheikh; Executive Member Akash Majumdar; and other leaders and volunteers of the organisation.
Organisers said that similar social and environment-friendly initiatives would continue in the future with the aim of promoting environmental conservation, expanding green spaces, and building a more livable city for future generations.
