The social organisation Bashundhara Shuvosangho, run by leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group under the motto “Standing beside all in good deeds”, is spreading its activities across the country.
Among its various units, the Dhaka University (DU) chapter has set a distinct benchmark through its diverse positive initiatives and student-focused programmes, emerging as a role model for the organisation’s nationwide network.
A special view exchange meeting was recently held at the Senate Building premises of Dhaka University. The meeting was chaired by DU Shuvosangho President Abdul Momin and attended by Joint General Secretaries Shakil Islam, Saiful Islam and Sobhan Ali. Hall representatives Farhad Ahmed, Maruf Ahmed, Tomal Adhikari, Masud Rana, Imran Hossain, along with a group of scholarship recipients, were also present.
The discussion mainly focused on the life stories of students who received Bashundhara Group scholarships and how the support helped them rebuild their academic journeys. Although many secured admission to Dhaka University on merit, financial constraints had put their higher education at risk. The monthly scholarships provided by Shuvosangho have now become a crucial source of support for them.
Several students shared emotional accounts of their financial struggles before and after receiving the scholarship.
Student Masud Rana said that before receiving the support, he had to manage expenses through private tutoring and borrowing money.
“I used to spend more time worrying about monthly costs than studying. After receiving the Shuvosangho scholarship, that financial pressure has completely eased, allowing me to focus fully on my studies,” he said.
Another student, Sabbir Ahmed, said the support went beyond financial assistance. “Bashundhara Group has not only supported us financially but also inspired us to dream. We also want to stand beside students in the future,” he said.
The inspiring testimonies of the students highlighted the DU unit as a strong example of humanitarian engagement, setting a model for other units of the organisation.
DU Shuvosangho President Abdul Momin said the unit has always promoted merit and humanity.
“Every scholarship recipient is now on the path to self-reliance and will become an asset to the country. Our vision is not limited to the university campus; the humanitarian leadership emerging from here will spread the light of good deeds across Bangladesh. The disciplined and festive way we carry out our activities makes this unit a role model for Shuvosangho,” he said.
