Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho have set an example of real compassion beyond mere formality on the occasion of International Workers’ Day.
The organisation’s Mugda unit in Dhaka stepped forward with a unique humanitarian initiative, standing by working-class people amid intense heat.
On 1 May, more than a hundred people engaged in manual labour—including rickshaw pullers—were provided with safe drinking water, oral saline, and towels, offering them some relief.
The programme was organised under the overall guidance and presence of Dhaka metropolitan unit Shuvosangho Coordinator Abdul Hannan Milton. It was presided over by Mugda unit President Sohan Ahmed, while General Secretary Md Sagar Hossain led the event.
Milton said, “Workers are the main driving force of our country’s economy. This small effort is meant to ease their suffering amid the scorching heat. We aim to build a compassionate society by spreading humanity.”
Shuvosangho Adviser and social worker Md Monowar Hossain Toufik said, “Working people keep our society and economy running through their daily hard work. Showing respect to them is not just a responsibility—it is our moral duty. This initiative by Shuvosangho is truly commendable and worth emulating.”
Leaders present at the programme also advised workers to stay healthy in extreme heat by drinking plenty of water, taking saline and maintaining proper hydration.
Among the advisers present were Md Iqbal Hossain, Md Rashed Majumdar, and AKM Delwar Hossain Shahjahan.
Others present included Shuvosangho’s Mugda unit joint general secretaries Md Ibrahim Mia and Yasin, vice-presidents Farhad Hossain, Md Iqbal Hossain, Liza, and Shaon Ahmed, Organising Secretary Jinia, Religious Affairs Secretary Monir, Sports Secretary Imran, Social Welfare Secretary Al Amin, Finance Secretary Rabbi, Science and Technology Secretary Jisan Alam, Library and Debate Secretary Rifat, and Children and Women Affairs Secretary Ayesha.
