Marking International Workers’ Day, members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gopalganj district unit distributed caps among working people as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions.
The programme was held at the launch terminal area in the town on Thursday morning.
Around 50 workers from different professions, including rickshaw pullers, van drivers, cleaners and construction workers, received red and green caps.
Rickshaw puller Akter Hossain said the cap would help him work more comfortably in the heat. “There was intense sunlight in recent days, making it difficult to drive a rickshaw. If the heat returns after the rain, I will use this cap and remember you in my prayers,” he said.
Cleaner Bijoy Jamadar said the cap would help protect him while working. “I deal with waste all day, and dirt often gets on my head. I liked the cap; it will help keep my head clean,” he added.
General Secretary of the district unit Turya Rahman said the initiative was taken to stand beside workers within their capacity on the occasion of May Day.
“It feels good to be able to support them, even if for a day,” he said.
Joint General Secretary Tipu Biswas said he felt honoured to be part of the initiative on a day dedicated to workers’ rights and expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Shuvosangho for the opportunity.
President of the district unit Sujon Das said the organisation remains committed to social welfare activities and described the programme as a small effort to stand beside working people.
Among others, Vice-Presidents Mohammad Al Imran Sumon and Ashikur Rahman, Joint General Secretary Samiul Alam, Organising Secretary Ayon Saha, Office Secretary Raihan Fakir, Hospitality Secretary Krishna Sarkar and Humayun Ahmed Palak, vice-president of the Gopalganj University unit, were present.
