Shedding the burdens of the past year, Bengalis have welcomed the Bengali New Year 1433 with renewed hope. The festive spirit of Pohela Boishakh continues to resonate throughout the month, with the traditional ‘Boishakhi Adda’ reflecting a rich blend of culture, heritage and emotion.
In this festive atmosphere, the Barishal district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a lively Boishakhi Adda at Banolota Book Café in the city’s Notun Bazar area on 23 April 2026 (10 Boishakh 1433), beginning at 6pm.
The gathering quickly came alive with poetry recitations, dance performances, melodious music and light-hearted exchanges. A sense of joy spread among the participants, evoking nostalgia and the warmth of bygone days. Traditional food served in earthenware and bamboo trays added a rustic charm to the event, enhancing the overall experience.
Among those present were district President Naziur Rahman, Vice-President Shahnaz Fatima Bithi, General Secretary Mahfuz Nusrat Mona, Joint General Secretary Mohon Hossain, Organising Secretary Mir Tanzil, Finance Secretary Abu Sayeed, Women’s Affairs Secretary Sanjida Nusrat Aduri and Publicity and Publications Secretary Imran Faraji. Also present was Prokash Chandra Pal, General Secretary of Uttaran Cultural Organisation.
Members of the organisation—including Shifa, Asif, Naim, Mansura, Ikhtiar, Mashrafe, Sakal Islam, Puja Roy, Naim Hossain Shanto, Mahmud Un Nabi, Tamim Islam, Imran Hossain Kaiyum, Sabbir Hossain Sohag, K M Mainul Haque, Sangeeta Rani, Tanushree Halder, Sadia Binte Alauddin, Ali Mahmud and Faria Rahman—along with many others, attended the event.
Throughout the programme, participants shared their hopes and aspirations for the new year, expressing a collective desire to move beyond past setbacks and usher in peace, prosperity and well-being in personal, social and national life.
The Boishakhi Adda was not merely a cultural event, but a celebration of unity, harmony and the enduring traditions of Bengali heritage.
