Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Akkelpur upazila unit on Friday celebrated Bangla New Year with day labourers through a unique programme.
The programme brought together people from different walks of life, particularly day labourers from different areas of the upazila.
The event began with the traditional rural game hari bhanga, which created much excitement among participants. The spontaneous participation of day labourers made the programme lively.
Later, all attendees sat together and enjoyed a meal of panta, mashed potato and fried fish.
Organisers said the initiative was taken to bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged and working-class people and to share the joy of the festival with them.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Akkelpur unit President Mowdud Ahmed, General Secretary Shadman Hafiz Shuvo, Press Club President Shafiul Alam and construction workers’ leader Muslim Uddin were present at the event.
Welcoming the initiative, locals said such programmes with day labourers bring them special joy and convey a positive message in society.
Construction workers’ leader Muslim Uddin said day labourers are often a neglected section of society and thanked Bashundhara Shuvosangho for organising such a programme for them.
