A seminar on child health awareness was held in Lalmai upazila of Cumilla to ensure health consciousness among primary school students and build a measles-free community.
The seminar, organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho, took place on Thursday morning at the pre-primary classroom of Bagmara Government Primary School in the upazila.
The seminar began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by student Umme Hani.
Presided over by dentist Mofizul Islam Munna, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Lalmai upazila unit, the event featured Upazila Health Officer Dr Enamul Haque as the chief guest.
Dr Enamul Haque spoke on the importance of raising health awareness among children. He said the market is flooded with unhygienic food sold as tiffin items, which attract children due to lower prices and lead to different stomach diseases.
Zahirul Islam, Lalmai and Sadar South correspondent of Daily Kaler Kantho, moderated the seminar.
Among others, Lalmai Press Club General Secretary Md Kamal Hossain and Head Teacher of Bagmara Government Primary School Ahsan Habib spoke as special guests.
Also present were Principal of Al Isra Madrasa Maulana Masum Billah Muhajir, Assistant Teacher Abdul Quddus, General Secretary of Lalmai Reporters’ Unity Pradip Majumdar, Organising Secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Lalmai unit Maruf Siraji, Event Secretary Yamin, Finance Secretary Shoikat, and member Shahriar Emon.
At the end of the programme, a prayer was offered seeking the recovery of Kazi Iqbal Hossain Kajol, father of the unit’s secretary Kazi Yakub Ali Naimel, who is undergoing treatment in the ICU of Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
During the seminar, the participating students pledged to avoid street food, refrain from unhealthy food, maintain personal hygiene by keeping nails and hair trimmed, and ensure measles vaccination registration in line with government directives.
