Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho celebrated Pahela Baishakh, marking the Bangla New Year 1433, at Rabindra University through a unique, colourful, and festive programme.
The organisation’s university unit organised the event, where a traditional panta-ilish feast, essay presentations, musical performances, and folk games were the main attractions.
The chief guest of the programme was Proshanta Kumar Podder, assistant professor of the Department of Management.
In his speech, he highlighted the tradition, cultural significance, and deep influence of Pahela Baishakh on Bengali life.
He said, “Pahela Baishakh is not just a festival; it is the foundation of our Bengali identity—where we rise above religion and divisions to unite as one.”
Special guests included Department of Music Lecturer Babul Hossain and Department of Bangla Lecturer Sabequne Khaleque Suba, both members of Shuvosangho’s advisory panel.
Speaking briefly at the event, Rabindra University unit Shuvosangho General Secretary Shahed Akter extended New Year greetings and emphasised the significance of the occasion.
He said, “A new year means new dreams and possibilities. “Inspired by this spirit, we will move forward on the path of unity and humanity.”
Ferdous Hossain, publicity secretary of the organisation, also presented an essay highlighting the historical background and cultural aspects of the Bangla New Year.
He said, “The Bangla New Year connects us to our roots and reminds us of who we are and the depth of our culture.”
Shuvosangho members Akash Roy, Momo Roy, Ganesh Chandra Roy, Arefin, and Payel, were present, among others.
