Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur have distributed awareness leaflets among students to help prevent the spread of Measles, amid a rise in infections across the country.
The leaflets were handed out on Tuesday at around 10:00 am among students of Dakkhin Krishnanagar No. 97 Government Primary School under Kalkini municipality.
The initiative, organised by the Kalkini upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, aimed to raise awareness among children and, through them, their guardians about the symptoms of measles, preventive measures and the importance of vaccination.
The event was chaired by vice-president Monir Hossain Sarker, while general secretary Tanha Islam conducted the programme.
During the distribution, head teacher Md Sarwar Hossain said measles is a highly contagious disease that mainly affects children, with symptoms including fever, runny nose and red eyes.
“To stay safe from measles, one must maintain hygiene, eat nutritious food and seek medical attention promptly while keeping distance from others if infected,” he said.
He also urged students to take the leaflets home and share them with their parents, and thanked Bashundhara Shuvosangho for the initiative.
Among others present were teachers Bina Pani Pal, Sayeka Khanam, Shahina Mostafa, Kaniz Fatema, Salma Akter and Habiba Sultana.
Also attending were joint general secretary Md Arafat Ahmed, organising secretary Khandakar Mubin, assistant organising secretary Md Arman Hasan, finance secretary Md Jubayer Ahmed and other members of the Shuvosangho’s Kalkini upazila unit.
