Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a lively seasonal fruit festival in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur to promote local fruits and raise awareness about their nutritional value.
The event took place at West Charbhoyra Government Primary School under the slogan “Eat local fruits, build a healthy life,” with participation from teachers and students. Participants tasted a variety of seasonal fruits and learned about their health benefits.
Speakers highlighted the importance of consuming local fruits, saying they are nutritious, affordable and easily available. They urged people to reduce dependence on imported fruits and develop the habit of eating locally grown produce.
School head teacher Md Abubakar Siddique attended the programme as a guest, along with Zakir Hossain, general secretary of the upazila Anti-Corruption Commission.
Tarek Bepari, general secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Damudya upazila unit, chaired the event, while Syed Mehedi Hasan moderated the session.
Abubakar Siddique said children should develop the habit of eating local fruits from an early age to grow up healthy and strong. He also stressed the need to promote local fruits through social initiatives.
Zakir Hossain said many people now rely heavily on imported fruits, which can be costly and not always safe.
He added that local fruits are more accessible, nutritious and affordable, and consuming them also supports local farmers.
