Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho in Gaibandha Sadar upazila have provided food assistance to an underprivileged woman, Rekha Begum, as part of their humanitarian activities.
The food items were handed over at her residence in the South Folia cluster village under the Boali union on Saturday. The assistance package included rice, lentils, cooking oil, potatoes, onions, garlic, turmeric, chicken, mixed spices, puffed rice, vermicelli, raisins, nuts, salt, milk and sugar.
Among those present during the distribution were District Vice-President Md Ashidul Islam, General Secretary Ahsania Tasnim Snigdha, Sadar upazila unit President Md Samiul Basir, Vice-President Md Ziaur Rahman, Joint General Secretary Md Arif Hossain, Hospitality Secretary Md Atikur Rahman and Social Welfare Secretary Md Hamim Hossain, along with local residents.
Rekha Begum said her husband died 10 years ago and her mentally challenged son has also been missing. She added that she suffers from a throat problem that makes it difficult for her to speak and that she survives by doing small household jobs at neighbours’ homes.
“I have been struggling to survive and had not received any assistance from any organisation before. I am grateful to Bashundhara Shuvosangho for standing beside me,” she said.
District General Secretary Ahsania Tasnim Snigdha said the organisation’s work for the welfare of people is commendable and expressed hope that they would continue to support underprivileged individuals like Rekha Begum in the future.
