Bashundhara Shuvosangho has provided sewing training and machines to 60 disadvantaged women from four upazilas of Moulvibazar, aiming to help them achieve self-reliance and improve their livelihoods.
The initiative included three months of free sewing training followed by the distribution of sewing machines to participants. Women from Kulaura, Sreemangal, Kamalganj and Rajnagar upazilas received the machines.
Sanijda Nahar Shova, an HSC graduate from Ali Amjad High School and College in Kulaura, expressed her gratitude after receiving the machine from Bashundhara Group Adviser and novelist Imdadul Haq Milan. She said job opportunities remain scarce in the current market and the sewing machine would help her support her family while continuing her studies.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Kulaura unit recently distributed sewing machines to 15 disadvantaged women at a programme held at the Kulaura Upazila Parishad hall room. Moulvibazar-2 MP Shaukatul Islam Shaku attended the event as chief guest, while Imdadul Haq Milan joined as special guest.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman delivered the welcome speech. Upazila Agriculture Officer Muhammad Jasim Uddin, Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Moniruzzaman Molla, BNP leader Badruzzaman Sojol and several local dignitaries also attended the event.
The organisers distributed another 30 sewing machines to women in Sreemangal and Kamalganj a day earlier. The following morning, Moulvibazar Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Tanvir Hossain handed over 15 more machines at the district circuit house.
Imdadul Haq Milan said Bashundhara Group has so far distributed more than 3,000 sewing machines across the country to support disadvantaged women. He urged the recipients to use the machines properly to create income opportunities and strengthen their families.
Many recipients said the training had boosted their confidence and opened new possibilities. Rima Begum of Kulaura said the machine would allow her to support her farmer father and contribute to the family’s income. Tisha Dev of Rajnagar also expressed hope that sewing work would help her overcome financial hardship and build a better future.
Through such initiatives, Bashundhara Group continues to promote self-employment and social support for disadvantaged communities across the country.
