The Keshabpur upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed food and Eid essentials among two underprivileged families, including a physically disabled family and an orphaned family, as part of its humanitarian efforts.
The distribution programme was held on Friday at the auditorium of the Keshabpur Press Club, where volunteers handed over food items and Eid gifts to the families from Madhyakul and Majidpur villages of Keshabpur upazila in Jashore District.
The Eid packages included vermicelli, sugar, powdered milk, raisins and nuts. In addition, essential food items such as rice, lentils, potatoes, onions and cooking oil were provided as one-month food assistance.
Among the beneficiaries were physically disabled Shafiqul Sheikh of Madhyakul village, who lost his leg due to illness, and his son Shakil Sheikh, who also lost a leg after reportedly being pushed from a moving train two years ago.
The organisation also provided assistance to two orphaned sisters, Sumaiya Akter Mitu and Samira Khatun Setu of Majidpur village, who lost both their parents and were living in hardship.
The event was chaired by AFM Shafi, president of the Keshabpur upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho. Others present included Adviser Advocate Abdul Majid, President of Keshabpur Press Club Ashraf-uz-Zaman Khan, General Secretary Abdullah Al Fuad, Shuvosangho Keshabpur General Secretary Principal Asim Ghosh, Associate Professor Tapas Majumdar of Phultala Jamira College, Headteacher Supravat Kumar Bosu of Garbhanga Secondary Girls’ School, Organising Secretary Kamruzzaman, Women’s Affairs Secretary Hasina Khatun and student Swastika Ghosh, among others.
Expressing his gratitude after receiving the assistance, Shafiqul Sheikh said he had been struggling to support his family due to the disabilities of both himself and his son. He added that the support from Bashundhara Shuvosangho had eased some of their worries and would help them celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with greater comfort.
The orphaned sisters also expressed their appreciation, saying they were happy to receive the support and grateful that the organisation had reached out to families like theirs. They said the assistance would help them celebrate the upcoming Eid festival with joy.
Speaking at the event, AFM Shafi said the organisation would continue such humanitarian activities in Keshabpur with the support of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and sought prayers for the continued success of its initiatives.
