Muezzin Nur Islam in Madhyanagar upazila of Sunamganj has received Eid gifts from Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Members of Madhyanagar upazila unit of Shuvosangho handed over the items to Nur Islam at his home in the government’s Ashrayan Project (Gucchhagram) under Banshikunda South union on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eid assistance included panjabi, lungi, saree, semai, sugar, lentils, salt, potatoes, chickpeas, puffed rice, flattened rice, dates, powdered milk, noodles, soybean oil, soap, onions and garlic.
Among those present were upazila Shuvosangho adviser Abul Kasem, convener Al Amin Salman, member Nirab Mia, Atabul Mia and several local residents.
Nur Islam said he has been serving as the muezzin of the Gucchhagram Jame Mosque for the last 10 years but does not receive any salary or allowance from the mosque.
“I manage my family by doing small jobs at neighbours’ houses alongside serving the mosque. It becomes difficult at times. Bashundhara Shuvosangho has supported me ahead of Eid, and I am grateful to them,” he said.
Shuvosangho adviser Abul Kasem said the organisation’s efforts for public welfare are truly commendable and hoped it would continue standing beside people like Nur Islam.
Madhyanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ujjal Ray said they expect Bashundhara Shuvosangho to continue supporting marginalised people in the haor region in the future as well.
