Bashundhara Shuvosangho Moulvibazar district unit has distributed Eid gifts among underprivileged women tea workers ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
The programme was held on Tuesday afternoon at Moulvi Tea Garden in Sadar upazila, where new sarees were handed over to distressed women tea workers as advance Eid gifts.
Many of the beneficiaries are widowed or the main earning members of their families. Living on meagre daily wages from tea gardens, they often struggle to manage even basic meals, making it almost impossible to buy new clothes for Eid.
Receiving the new sarees ahead of Eid brought visible joy and relief to the women.
The programme was presided over by President of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Moulvibazar district unit M Muhibur Rahman Muhib.
Among others, Advocate Abu Taher, cultural personality Khaled Chowdhury, UK expatriate Shamim Torfadar, and Moulvibazar correspondent of Kaler Kantho and adviser to Bashundhara Shuvosangho Mohammad Saiful Islam spoke at the event.
Also present were district unit Joint General Secretary Fahad Alam, Joint General Secretary and acting chairman of Monu’r Muk Union Shah Imran Saju, Publicity Secretary Zakaria Iman, social worker Abdur Rahman Parvez, and journalist Mamun Torfadar.
