Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho extended support to a distressed woman in Boalkhali Upazila as part of a humanitarian initiative during the holy month of Ramadan.
The organisation provided food assistance to Julekha Begum, 35, a resident of Syedpur Ward No 1 under Popadia union. She has struggled to support her four daughters since her husband, Zainal Abedin, died about a year ago.
After losing her husband, Julekha took full responsibility for the family. With no son and no stable source of income, she has struggled to manage daily expenses. With the help of local residents, she managed to arrange the marriage of her eldest daughter, while she now lives with her three younger daughters in a small, dilapidated house.
Neighbours said she often depends on the support of people in the area to meet basic needs.
After learning about her hardship, members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho visited her home and offered assistance on Saturday afternoon. The volunteers handed over food items including rice, lentils, oil, salt, onions, garlic and potatoes.
Among those present during the assistance programme were Bashundhara Shuvosangho volunteers Md Saimon, Obaidul Haque and Md Ershad, along with SM Naim Uddin, the Boalkhali correspondent of Kaler Kantho.
Local residents praised the initiative, saying the organisation selected a truly needy family during Ramadan.
They also said such efforts help ease the suffering of many underprivileged people and encouraged affluent members of society to come forward with similar humanitarian support.
Residents expressed hope that Bashundhara Shuvosangho would continue its charitable activities and stand beside people in need in the future.
