Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Thursday evening launched a public library at the Akhaura Railway Station in Brahmanbaria, receiving a warm welcome from locals and influential people.
The group provided an initial donation of eighty-five books by Imdadul Haq Milan and 25 books by the late Humayun Ahmed for the library.
Many local people have also pledged to provide material support for enriching the library. Saudi expatriate Md Delowar Hossain voluntarily extended financial assistance for buying the only almirah for the library.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a discussion meeting was held, which was moderated by Kaler Kantho’s Brahmanbaria district correspondent, Biswajit Pal Babu. On the occasion, journalists Habibur Rahman and Ashish Saha announced that they would collect some books from the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair and donate them to the library.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Akhaura Railway Station Superintendent Nurunnabi Bhuiyan said, “If someone waiting for a train can spend their time reading a book at the station, what could be better than that?” He thanked the authorities of Bashundhara Shuvosangho for implementing such an initiative at the railway station.
Security official Md Jahangir Alam said, “In a word, I am delighted. This is a unique initiative. Such activities truly deserve appreciation. We will all work together to take care of and maintain this library.”
