Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a discussion session against the impact of wars and the need for worldwide peaceful coexistence at Dinajpur Government College on Monday.
The programme began with recitations from the Holy Quran.
In his welcome speech at the discussion meeting, Arup Kumar Roy, president of the Dinajpur Government College unit of Shuvosangho, said that incidents of war and conflict, power struggles, ethnic divisions and human rights violations have increased at an alarming rate across the world. In such a reality, he said, the younger generation must raise their voices in favour of peace and be inspired by humanitarian values.
Taking part in the discussion, students said peace is not merely the absence of war; it means the establishment of justice, tolerance, mutual respect and humanitarian compassion. Coexistence amid religious, social and cultural diversity can be the foundation of sustainable development. In this regard, educational institutions must be developed as centres of peace and humanity.
Md Delwar Hossain, head of the Department of Botany at Dinajpur Government College, said, “The youth are the future of the nation. If they are inspired by the spirit of unity rather than divisive politics, positive change will come to society.” He urged students to stay away from rumours and hate propaganda on social media.
At the end of the discussion, a special prayer was offered seeking global peace, the liberation of oppressed people, and security and stability in war-torn regions.
Participants prayed to Almighty Allah that ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world may come to an end, humanity may prevail, and people may learn to love one another.
Special prayers were offered for the safety of children, women and the vulnerable, and for fostering mutual understanding and dialogue among world leaders. In an emotional atmosphere, the attending students raised their hands and reaffirmed their commitment to peace.
