A family affected by a devastating fire in Swarupkathi upazila of Pirojpur has received iftar items and financial assistance from Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Ali Ahmed, a carpenter from Mahmudkathi village under Atghar-Kuriana union, has been unable to work due to old age and illness. His family of 10 survives on the modest income of one son’s small timber business and another son’s job at a local sawmill.
On the night of 19 February, during sehri on the first day of Ramadan, a fire broke out in their house due to an electrical short circuit. Within moments, the flames engulfed their tin-and-wood home, completely destroying it along with all belongings.
Having lost their only shelter and possessions, the family has been struggling to survive during the holy month of Ramadan. Upon learning of the incident, a team from the upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho visited the family on Sunday morning.
The delegation was led by Hazrat Ali Hiru, adviser to the upazila unit and correspondent of Kaler Kantho, and included upazila President Md Mohibullah, Organising Secretary Md Mostakim Billah Raju, Religious Affairs Secretary Abdur Rahim, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Umme Kulsum Hasi, and member Ramzan Ali Rakib.
The team handed over iftar supplies sufficient for the entire month of Ramadan and provided cash assistance to help rebuild the family’s home.
Receiving the support, an emotional Ali Ahmed said they had been left destitute by the fire and were struggling to observe Ramadan properly due to a lack of food.
He expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Shuvosangho, saying the organisation’s assistance during their time of crisis would be remembered by his family forever.
He also prayed that their support during the holy month would be rewarded.
Hazrat Ali Hiru said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been carrying out various social, humanitarian and welfare activities across the country. As part of those efforts, the Swarupkathi unit extended support to the fire-affected family with iftar items and financial aid.
