Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Saturday distributed one month’s food items to an underprivileged elderly woman in Lalmonirhat sadar Upazila.
Seventy-one-year-old Nurjahan Begum had been living in inhumane conditions in a small tin-shed house. Inside the house, there was only a broken cot and a bamboo platform, while a dilapidated bathroom stood beside the structure. She had been passing her days in severe hardship during the holy month of Ramadan.
After learning about her plight, the Lalmonirhat district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho promptly visited her residence and handed over one month’s food supplies according to her needs. The items included rice, chickens, lentils, chickpeas, sugar, edible oil, dates, bundia and other daily essentials.
Nurjahan Begum became emotional upon receiving the assistance. Due to old age, she was unable to carry the market goods into her home. Volunteers of Bashundhara Shuvosangho therefore placed the food items on the bamboo platform inside her house.
Among others present at the time were district unit adviser of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Tanmoy Ahmed Nayan, president Md Jamal Hossain, general secretary Md Nayeem Rahman, organising secretary Mehedi Hasan Masud, vice-president Md Labu Mia, joint general secretary Md Anwarul Haque Milon and publicity secretary Mahabur Rahman.
