Bashundhara Shuvosangho activists convened a discussion session on the religious and moral significance of Ramadan at Syedpur Adarsha Girls’ School and College on Thursday. On the occasion an iftar mahfil was also held.
Mosammat Sanjida Begum Lucky, former woman vice chairman at Syedpur Upazila Parishad, was the chief guest at the event.
Alhaj Md Nasim Reza Shah, president at Shuvosangho’s Syedpur Upazila unit and also a retired senior teacher of Syedpur Adarsha Girls’ School and College, presided over the event.
Md Mahmudul Hasan Khaja, a teacher at Al Huda Academy, highlighted the significance and importance of the holy month of Ramadan. He said that Ramadan is the month of mercy, forgiveness, and salvation, and one of the main pillars of Islam. It was in this month that the Holy Qur’an, the sacred scripture of Islam, was revealed. Ramadan is the best time to attain closeness to Allah, have prayers accepted, and transform oneself completely. Through fasting, believers develop taqwa (God-consciousness) and achieve self-purification, Khaja noted.
The other attendees were: Md Shafiqul Alam, general secretary of Shuvosangho’s Syedpur unit; Sohail Rana, sports secretary at the unit; Najma Parveen Snigdha, lecturer at Sunflower School and College; and SM Shakil Islam, teacher at Aishdhal Khiarpara Alim and Vocational Madrasa.
