Bashundhara Shubhosangho’s Anwara upazila unit has extended support to a destitute woman battling cancer, providing essential food items for iftar and sehri ahead of Ramadan.
Members of the organization on Wednesday delivered necessary food supplies to the family of Halima Begum, who has been fighting cancer for the past three years.
Widowed and suffering from prolonged illness, Halima has been enduring severe physical pain alongside extreme financial hardship. Her only son, 15, is mentally challenged. Of her two daughters, one returned to her mother’s home with a young child after marital separation.
To care for her ailing mother, Halima’s daughter Sharmin had to quit her job at a garment factory. The family now survives in acute hardship, with Sharmin occasionally working in households and relying on assistance from others.
After Halima recently returned home from hospital, the family was left without any food. Amid uncertainty and anxiety, they were passing their days with faith and hope when Bashundhara Shubhosangho stepped in with humanitarian support during the holy month of Ramadan.
The organization provided rice, lentils, cooking oil, potatoes, onions, garlic, vermicelli, noodles, flour, puffed rice, sugar and salt, among other essentials for iftar and sehri.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Halima expressed gratitude for the support. With tearful eyes, she said the assistance had brought relief to her family during a difficult time and prayed for the well-being of those who came forward to help.
She also appealed to affluent members of society to assist in repairing her dilapidated house, which leaks during rainfall, making it unsafe for the family.
Among those present were Safayet Raihan Shihab, president of Bashundhara Shubhosangho Anwara upazila unit; sports secretary Minhaj Uddin Sagar; joint sports secretary Imdadul Haque Shawon; member Hasibul Hasan; and Aziz Khan, general secretary of Swapnojatri Foundation’s Anwara unit.
