Bashundhara Shuvosangho activists on Tuesday provided free food items to a poverty-stricken family that lives in Raghunathpur Sarkarpara area of Pirganj upazila, Thakurgaon.
The housewife, Most Merina, is paralysed and her husband is also seriously ill, making him incapable of earning a living for themselves and their two toddlers.
Learning about their hardships, Shuvosangho decided to assist them and hold an aid handover programme at Pirganj Press Club. The donations included: rice, lentils, edible oil, sugar, chickpeas, dates, fresh vegetables, and different kinds of fruits.
The aim was to help the family spend the holy month of Ramadan without much of any worries.
Among those present at the programme were: Pirganj Press Club President Zainal Abedin Babul, its General Secretary Nashrode Khoda Rana, Shuvosangho Pirganj upazila branch President Tarek Hossain, and General Secretary Delwar Hossain Dulal.
Shuvosangho leaders said that the organisation has consistently played a leading role in humanitarian activities in Pirganj. Particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, the organisation drew widespread appreciation by distributing one month’s worth of food supplies among numerous people who had lost their livelihoods.
Overwhelmed after receiving the food assistance, Marina said, “In my struggling household, I was finding it difficult to manage properly during the month of Ramadan. The food supplies that Shuvosangho members purchased for me today have greatly benefited me. Now I will be able to observe my fasts properly.”
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Shuvosangho for this humanitarian support.
