Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gangachara upazila unit in Rangpur observed the Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on Saturday with due respect and solemnity.
Marking the occasion, leaders and members of Shuvosangho paid tribute to the language martyrs by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.
In the early hours of Ekushey, they laid flowers at the Shaheed Minar in remembrance of the valiant martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement and prayed for the salvation of their souls.
Among those present were Asaduzzaman, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Gangachara unit; vice-president Raihan Kabir; general secretary Nazirul Islam; women affairs secretary Jui Akter; and members Tanisha, Rumana Khatun, Abul Kalam Azad, Srabon and Sajib Khan, among others.
In brief remarks, the speakers said the Language Movement was the first struggle of the Bengali nation to secure its rights. They stressed that the new generation must remain aware and be inspired by patriotism to uphold the dignity of the Bangla language achieved through the martyrs’ sacrifice.
