The Sirajganj unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a colourful painting competition on Monday to mark International Mother Language Day and honour the language martyrs.
Students of classes three, four and five took part in the daylong event at Rangdhanu Digital School. The school premises turned into a vibrant canvas as children painted scenes of 21 February, the Language Movement and the sacrifices of the martyrs.
Many drawings featured the Shaheed Minar, blood-stained streets and banners bearing the words “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano”, expressing deep love and respect for the mother tongue.
School Chairman Alhaj Rezaul Karim Swapan attended the programme as chief guest. Assistant Professor Rasheda Hossain Rozy joined as special guest. Ullapara unit President Farhad Hossain, General Secretary Suman Ansari and other organisers and teachers also attended the event.
Rezaul Karim Swapan said International Mother Language Day forms an inseparable part of national identity. He praised the initiative of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and said the competition helped students learn about the history of Ekushey and pay tribute to the language martyrs. He added that such events nurture patriotism and a sense of responsibility towards the mother tongue among children.
Organisers said the enthusiastic participation of children reflected their creativity and awareness. They pledged to continue similar educational and cultural programmes to promote the spirit of the Language Movement among the younger generation.
