The Khetlal upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho in Joypurhat has started implementing a wide range of programmes aimed at social welfare and environmental protection, with active engagement in environmental awareness, education support, agricultural development and humanitarian activities.
Members reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the environment, preventing river and water pollution, controlling air pollution and reducing water wastage at a work-plan discussion on Sunday at the Samshira High School playground.
At the meeting, decisions were taken to strengthen awareness campaigns on environmental protection, launch anti-plastic drives and intensify cleanliness programmes to keep rivers, canals and surrounding areas clean.
Alongside tree plantation activities, initiatives were also taken to remove nails from trees, take down harmful posters and apply paint to trees following proper guidelines to enhance beautification.
Members said their continued efforts are driven by the belief that saving trees means saving the environment.
To support farmers, the unit decided to distribute high-quality seeds free of cost and conduct awareness programmes on water-efficient farming methods. It was also announced that the organisation would continue distributing free books and providing educational materials to underprivileged students.
The event also discussed awareness programmes, campaigns and coordinated local initiatives to prevent child marriage. In addition, food distribution and humanitarian assistance programmes for orphans and disadvantaged children are currently underway.
