In a tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement, Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a cleanliness and homage programme at the Shaheed Minar in the Tarabo Bishwaroad area under Rupganj of Narayanganj during the month of February, known as the month of language.
The initiative was carried out by the Rupganj thana unit of the organisation, with enthusiastic participation from local youths.
The programme aimed to honour the memory, sacrifice, and legacy of the language martyrs, which remain deeply cherished in the hearts of Bengalis.
As the morning sun rose, a group of young volunteers arrived at the Shaheed Minar premises equipped with cleaning materials. Some carried garbage bags, while others brought water containers to wash the area.
United by a shared purpose, they worked together to restore cleanliness and dignity to the historic site associated with the sacrifices of the language martyrs.
Organisers said the Shaheed Minar is not merely a structure but a symbol of Bengali identity, struggle, and sacrifice. Keeping the premises clean during the language month is not just about maintaining a physical space, they noted, but also about expressing love, gratitude, and responsibility toward the martyrs.
Since its inception, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been working for humanitarian causes, social responsibility, and youth development.
The clean-up programme was implemented under the guidance of Dhaka Metropolitan Coordinator Abdul Hannan Milton and led by Rupganj thana unit President Md Ahsanul Haque and General Secretary Rimon Rahman.
“Honouring those who sacrificed their lives for our language is our moral responsibility,” the organisers said. “Keeping the Shaheed Minar clean means respecting our history and identity. The participation of young people proves that the new generation’s love for the country, language, and history remains strong.”
Among those present at the programme were Ashraful, Siam, Niloy, Shihab, Sujon, Ismail, Robin, Alamin, Javed, Nazmul, and many other local youths.
Their collective efforts soon left the Shaheed Minar premises clean, orderly, and respectful.
Local residents praised the initiative, saying such demonstrations of patriotism and social responsibility by young people would inspire others.
They added that programmes like this during the language month not only promote cleanliness but also foster historical awareness and values among the younger generation.
Organisers expressed hope that such initiatives, rooted in deep respect and gratitude for the language martyrs, would continue in the future sending a clear message that tribute is expressed not only through flowers, but also through meaningful action.
