To strengthen the anti-drug movement, Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Netrokona district unit has taken a unique and timely initiative.
Under the slogan “Leave Drugs, Step onto the Field, Build a Healthy and Beautiful Life”, a friendly football match was organised to raise awareness among the youth and keep them away from the menace of drugs through sports.
Before the match began, the referee symbolically showed a red card to drugs, sending a clear message to all present.
Two teams – Netrokona district unit Shuvosangho and the district’s renowned Sheikh Moazzem Football Academy – faced off on Sunday afternoon.
The captain of Bashundhara Shuvosangho team was Abdur Rahman, president of the organisation and a journalist of Bangla News 24, while Sheikh Moazzem led the opposing academy.
Under their leadership, the match remained disciplined and cordial. However, after a thrilling contest of attacks and counterattacks, Bashundhara Shuvosangho secured a 1–0 victory.
After the game, a brief discussion session was held on the field. Speakers highlighted that sports are an effective way to keep young people away from drug addiction.
Abdur Rahman said, “Drugs push youth onto the path of destruction. Sports keep young people physically and mentally healthy. This initiative is aimed at encouraging youth to develop a strong interest in sports.”
Sheikh Moazzem said, “Let sports, not drugs, be the true strength of our youth. On the field, we learn discipline, rules, and teamwork, and likewise, everyone must come together to eliminate drugs from society.”
The trophy was presented to the winning team by Shyamalendu Pal, former general secretary of Netrokona District Press Club and journalist of the Daily Ittefaq. Also present were BNP leaders Nazrul Alam Firoz, Ahmed Tonmoy, Biplob, and Uzzal, among others.
Shuvosangho’s Netrokona district unit Finance Secretary Mohammad Firoz Mia, Joint Organising Secretary Mohammad Nayeem Hasan, and Social Welfare Secretary Md Tipu Sultan were present, among others.
Organisers said such sports and awareness activities will continue in the future to promote a drug-free society.
