Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Monday arranged an awareness programme in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur to educate students about the negative impact of teenage gangs and promote social values among the youth.
The discussion began at 10:00am at the playground of Kalkini Government Pilot High School, where over a hundred students participated.
The meeting was chaired by Nahid, vice-president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Kalkini upazila unit, while Tanha Islam, general secretary of the unit, conducted the session.
Kalkini Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saief-ul-Arefin urged students to stay away from negative influences and to engage in constructive activities.
Speakers at the discussion said teenage gangs often emerge due to poor peer influence, lack of family supervision, drug abuse, and misuse of technology. They stressed the importance of engaging students in moral education, sports, cultural activities, and social work as effective ways to address the problem.
Mia Md Abdul Kaiyum, head teacher of Kalkini Government Pilot High School, said proper guidance for adolescents is crucial in the current context and that teenage gang-related problems can only be prevented if families, educational institutions, and social organisations work together.
Among others present at the event were Bashundhara Shuvosangho Kalkini unit adviser and Kaler Kantho correspondent Rafiqul Islam Mintu, unit vice-president Monir Sardar, organising secretary Khandaker Mubin, finance secretary Jubayer Ahmed, hospitality secretary Syed Sharafat, and members Pavel, Sifat Mahmud, Jihad, and Niloy Tanmoy.
