Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gangni upazila unit organised an essay competition and prize distribution ceremony with the participation of around 250 students at Lutfunnnessa Secondary School in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Monday.
The competition, titled “What kind of Bangladesh do we want in the future?”, encouraged students to express their visions for the country through writing.
Participants highlighted themes such as justice, good governance, sustainable economic development, climate awareness, employment opportunities, and moral values, reflecting hopes for a prosperous and humane Bangladesh.
Syed Md Zakir Hossain, Meherpur district president of Citizens for Good Governance (SHUJAN) and adviser to Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gangni unit, attended as the chief guest.
He said students would play a key role in shaping the country’s future.
“If their thoughts are guided by justice, humanity, and responsibility, the nation will move in the right direction,” he said.
SM Rafiqul Islam Bokul, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Meherpur district unit, attended as special guest and said writing has the power to bring positive social change.
He added that such initiatives help develop creativity and a sense of patriotism among students.
The programme was conducted by Raju Ahmed Bani, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gangni upazila unit. Teachers of the school, leaders of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, and local representatives were also present.
In the competition, tenth grader Mosa Khadija Khatun won first prize.
Her essay focused on building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh through sustainable economic growth, development of agriculture and industry, tackling climate change, reducing unemployment, and ensuring the proper use of natural resources.
Ninth grader Yasir Arafat, in his essay, called for a just and fair Bangladesh, emphasising moral values and social justice.
Students from grades six to ten took part in the competition, and prizes were awarded to 14 winners.
Speakers said such programmes help promote patriotism, awareness, and creative thinking among students.
