Humanity is stronger than any chain—this message has resonated anew at Sardar Para village in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh.
Nur Alam, who suffers from mental illness, has been living in chains for more than a decade. Due to a lack of medical treatment, extreme poverty, and social neglect, an entire family has remained trapped in hardship. Once again, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has stood beside that family.
Nur Alam’s family has no permanent source of income. His elderly mother struggles to keep the household running. Medical treatment for her son is beyond reach, while arranging daily meals has become a constant battle. This harsh reality has left the family surrounded by uncertainty and despair.
In such a difficult time, Shuvosangho’s Tetulia upazila unit emerged as a ray of hope. On Saturday, members of the organisation visited the family’s home and provided food assistance. The items included rice, lentils, cooking oil, sugar, salt, soap, powdered milk, potatoes, fresh vegetables, and a chicken.
This is not the first time Bashundhara Shuvosangho has supported the family. Earlier, one of Nur Alam’s daughters received free training and a sewing machine under the organisation’s sewing machine project, enabling her to become self-reliant and contribute to the family’s livelihood. This initiative has already brought the family a glimmer of hope.
Tetulia upazila unit Shuvosangho General Secretary Ferdous Alam Liton said, “We have stood beside this family several times before. We have informed the administration about Nur Alam’s medical condition, and we are hopeful that he will soon receive proper treatment. Bashundhara Shuvosangho always strives to remain at the forefront of humanitarian and welfare activities.”
President of Shuvosangho’s Tetulia upazila unit Md Humayun Kabir said, “There are many neglected and helpless families in society. Standing beside them is our moral responsibility. The organisation will continue such humanitarian activities in the future as well.”
Shuvosangho members Shakil Ahmed, Rabiul Islam Ratan, Sarwar Sohag, Ariful Islam, Babu, and journalist Mizanur Rahman were present.
