New government-funded textbooks were distributed among children of Bashundhara Shuvosangho School in Madaripur Sadar Upazila on Thursday.
Bashundhara Group founded the school in the Peyarpur Ashrayan Project site about four years ago to provide free education to around a hundred underprivileged children of the largely backward area.
In Thursday’s textbook distribution event, children were seen overflowing with excitement after receiving the new books. Flipping through the pages, laughing and chatting with one another, the children immersed themselves in happiness. The scent of new books seemed to bring them a unique sense of joy.
Parents also shared in the children’s happiness, with satisfaction and smiles clearly visible on their faces.
Second-grade student Mahi Rahman, holding her new textbooks, said, “I feel very happy to receive new books today. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time.”
First-grade student Ishan Hasan said, “New year, new books—the joy is different. I feel really good; I can’t even explain it.”
Morzina Begum, mother of another student of the same class, Rifatul Islam, said, “There was no school here before. Our children didn’t want to go to distant schools. Now there is a school close to home. Children are getting education without any cost. We are very happy today to see them receive new books.”
The book distribution event was presided over by Ohiduzzaman Kajol, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Madaripur District Branch. Others present included the branch’s General Secretary Zubayer Zahid, and the school’s teachers.
