An elderly woman, Jobeda Begum, living in the remote Halud Bihar village of Badalgachhi upazila in Naogaon, has been enduring unbearable pain after breaking her right arm in an accidental fall around six months ago.
Due to age-related complications and acute financial hardship, repeated medical treatment failed to heal the fracture. Despite having her arm put in plaster twice, there was no improvement. Frail with age, she can no longer move normally and has almost completely lost her eyesight. Unable to see, she recognises people only by their voices or when her name is called.
Her husband passed away many years ago. Her three sons work as van pullers, barely managing the family expenses with their meagre income. Her daughters were married off long ago. With no financial capacity to bear medical expenses, her sons often fail to buy even essential medicines, causing her suffering to worsen day by day.
After learning about her inhuman condition, the Badalgachhi upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho stepped forward to support the 80-year-old woman, who spends sleepless nights writhing in pain amid extreme poverty and lack of medical care.
On Wednesday at around 11:30am, members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Badalgachhi upazila unit visited Jobeda Begum’s home and handed over cash assistance for her treatment along with a blanket to protect her from the cold.
Overwhelmed by emotion, Jobeda Begum expressed her gratitude, saying in a trembling voice, “May Allah bless you, my children. Standing by me like this means everything.”
Those present included Bashundhara Shuvosangho Badalgachhi upazila president Professor Golam Kibria, Bilashbari Union BNP president Md Ashraful Islam, upazila general secretary Mohammad Mosaddeq Hossain Musa, Shuvosangho adviser and Kaler Kantho Badalgachhi correspondent Mohammad Emdadul Haque Dulu, and members Atwar Hossain, Alamgir Hossain Badal, among others.
