Highlighting the importance of social unity in building a just, humane, and discrimination-free society, Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Shayestaganj upazila unit in Habiganj organised a discussion meeting titled “The Role and Importance of a United Society in Building a Just Society.”
The discussion was held on Friday at 6:30pm at the Rupkatha Café Conference Hall in Shayestaganj.
The event was chaired by Belal Proyas, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Shayestaganj upazila unit, while General Secretary Khalilur Rahman Sujon conducted the proceedings.
The keynote address was delivered by Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, adviser to the organisation and principal of Jahur Chan Bibi Women’s College. Special guests included Bashundhara Shuvosangho adviser and freedom fighter Kazi Golam Mortuza, and former principal of Panchash School and College, Md Nasir Uddin.
Speakers at the event also included Organisational Secretary Rafiqul Islam; adviser and retired sergeant Md Shahjahan Mia; retired army officer Abidur Rahman; Shayestaganj Union Parishad Chairman Md Abdul Shahid; and journalist Injamamul Haque (Naeem).
Among those present were adviser Md Junayed Ahmed; Vice Presidents Engineer Yakub Ali and Monirul Islam Mim; Finance Secretary Md Injamamul Haque Naeem; Office Secretary Sayedul Haque Ayon; Event Secretary Tahmina Akhtar Ruby; Information and Technology Affairs Secretary Mohammad Hossain Shakil; and Executive Members Shaheen Alam, Kawsar Ahmed, Md Ruhul Amin Moni, Afzal Hossain Imran, Ripon Mia, MM Shamim Ahsan, along with other members.
Speakers said that social unity is essential for establishing a just society and stressed the need to build collective resistance against injustice, corruption, and discrimination.
They emphasised that active participation by conscious citizens is crucial to ensure justice and uphold humanitarian values.
At the beginning of the discussion, deep respect was paid to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War and the July Mass Uprising, and prayers were offered for the eternal peace of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The speakers also highlighted the importance of maintaining communal harmony, preventing violence against women and children, taking a united stand against rumors and misinformation, and ensuring daughters’ rightful inheritance of their father’s property.
In the second session, participants decided to undertake future social and humanitarian initiatives in Shayestaganj Upazila. These include distributing winter clothing among the underprivileged, taking effective measures for the welfare of street children, establishing an English Language Club to support weaker students, organising specific cultural programmes, arranging competitive examinations for school students, and providing scholarships to meritorious and outstanding students.
The meeting concluded with appreciation for Bashundhara Group’s overall humanitarian initiatives and its contributions to the country’s development and progress, followed by a declaration of the meeting’s closure.
