Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a book reading session at the library of renowned tea vendor Harun Mia in Gouripur, Mymensingh.
The event took place on Monday afternoon at Harun Library, located in Ward No 5 of Satisha Mohalla in Gouripur town, under the initiative of Shuvosangho’s Gouripur upazila unit.
Harun Mia launched the library in 2023 beside his tea stall with more than a hundred books—an exceptional initiative aimed at drawing people toward reading. Alongside selling tea, he is pursuing a degree (pass course) under Bangladesh Open University. He has drawn nationwide attention for setting up a library next to his tea stall, leading anti-drug campaigns, offering tea at half price to freedom fighters, and engaging in anti-corruption social movements.
This unique initiative caught the attention of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s founder, acclaimed fiction writer and novelist Imdadul Haq Milan. Inspired by Imdadul Haq Milan, books were sent to Harun Library through Shuvosangho. Previously, writers and book lovers from different districts and upazilas across the country have also donated books to this library.
Shuvosangho’s Gouripur upazila unit President Shankar Ghosh Pilu said, “Harun Mia is an enlightened individual of Gouripur upazila. He has been tirelessly working to inspire people to read books. Being able to chat here with books by a distinguished writer like Imdadul Haq Milan is a matter of joy for us.”
Shuvosangho member Jahangir Islam Sabbir said, “The experience of reading books along with sipping tea is truly special. Anyone who comes here for tea is bound to fall in love with books.”
