In an effort to combat the growing effects of climate change, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Library has organized a large-scale tree plantation program in the traditional village of Khirati in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. The initiative took place on Monday, June 16, at Char Khirati Government Primary School, adjacent to the Shuvosangho Library.
The event featured the planting of more than 100 saplings, including fruit-bearing, medicinal, forest, and ornamental trees. These were strategically planted around the library, school premises, and along the nearby roads to enhance environmental protection and community greenery.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hafizul Islam was present at the event as the chief guest. Several other dignitaries also attended, including Md. Mujibur Rahman, Syed Matin, Engineer Syed Nasir, Dr. Ashiq, Samim, Farid Master, Simon Ahmed Fahad, and members of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central Committee.
Local youth and community leaders, such as Nayeem Islam, Mehedi Islam, Manjil Sheikh, Shuvo Nayeem, and members of the Charkhirati Youth Club—including Md. Shakhawat Hossain, Md. Apel Mahmood, Md. Riton Mia, Md. Billal Hossain, and Imran Fakir—also actively participated in the planting activities.
Ashiqul Islam Ashiq, convener of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Kapasia upazila, emphasized the urgency of environmental action. “Climate change is intensifying every day. We must act now to protect our planet. Tree planting is not just an environmental necessity—it is crucial for sustainable development and securing a livable future for coming generations,” he said.
He added, “A tree is a life. If a tree survives, life will survive. We must all come forward to plant trees and inspire others to do the same.”
