Bashundhara Shuvosangho has distributed sanitary napkins among 30 school-going girls and women tea workers living in the Lakhaichhara tea garden area of Srimangal upazila of Moulvibazar.
The social volunteer platform also conducted an awareness campaign during the napkin distribution programme in the tea garden area on Monday.
Srimangal Upazila Health Officer Dr Cynthia Tasmin was the chief guest, and Bangladesh Tea Workers Union Vice President Pankaj Kanda was the special guest at the event presided over by Kaler Kantho correspondent Md Saiful Islam.
Shuvosangho unit President Mohammad Al Amin, Vice President Md Shamsul Islam and General Secretary Sujan Mia, Lakhaichhara Tea Garden Panchayat President Ganapat Vaidya, social worker Ujjal Hazra and school student Srabani Tanti were present on the occasion.
"I convey my thanks to Bashundhara Shuvosangho, as they have given us sanitary napkins. I use sanitary napkins as it is very important. By using napkins, we remain free from various complications, including uterine diseases," said Srabani Tanti, a school student.
Social worker of Lakhaichhara tea garden Ujjal Hazra said, "Our tea garden has provided such facilities, and our mothers and sisters do not know how to use sanitary napkins. But because of the initiative taken by Bashundhara Shuvosangho, they will be free from different diseases."
"I express my gratitude to Shuvosangho for such initiative," he said.
Research found that no school in the district has a hygiene corner for girls. The situation is even worse in government schools in the tea garden area.
