Bashundhara Shuvosangho has organised an awareness meeting on the prevention of waterborne disease in Madhyanagar upazila of Sunamganj.
People from different walks of life, including children, swimmers, youth and the elderly, were present at the event in Mohammad Alipur Bazar of the upazila on Friday.
Some regions of the country experience floods every year, and as a result, extensive loss of property and crops takes place.
Besides, many people are infected with waterborne diseases.
UP member Md Amanuullah said that there is no alternative to raising awareness in curbing diseases.
"The incidence of waterborne diseases in the country has declined due to increased public awareness. It is possible to prevent waterborne diseases in the haor areas if everyone works together," he said.
Approximately 1.5 million people are affected by waterborne diseases across the world, and 842 thousand people die prematurely, according to official data.
