An awareness meeting on the prevention of cybercrime and eve-teasing was held in Sarishabari Upazila Jamalpur, organized by the Upazila branch of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
The event took place on Monday in the hall auditorium of Aramnagar Kamil Madrasa, with the participation of the madrasa students.
The meeting was presided over by Jakaria Ahmed, president of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sarishabari Upazila branch, and conducted by general secretary Kamruzzaman Liton. The chief guest at the event was Maulana Lutfor Rahman, former acting principal of Aramnagar Kamil Madrasa.
The event featured several speakers, including Mominul Islam Kismat, who serves as an advisor to the Shuvosangho Upazila branch and is also the Sarishabari correspondent for Kaler Kantho, as well as a sports organizer, teacher, and journalist. Another speaker was Sohanur Rahman Sohan, also an advisor to the Upazila branch and a diploma holder in computer technology. Limon Mia, the vice president of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Upazila branch, also addressed the audience.
In his discussion, Sohanur Rahman Sohan elaborated on cyber-attacks such as internet, phone, and computer system hacking, and how to prevent them.
He informed students about the dangers of the virtual world and covered issues like hacking, phishing (creating fake websites to steal information), leaking of personal photos or data, creating fake profiles to harass others, and financial theft or blackmail.
He emphasized that anyone can fall victim to such crimes, so awareness and prevention are the keys to staying safe.
Sports organizer, teacher, and journalist Mominul Islam Kismat spoke extensively about the measures to prevent and address eve-teasing.
He stressed the importance of launching a social movement to combat eve-teasing and recommended that educational institutions like schools, colleges, and madrasas incorporate discussions in their classrooms to raise awareness about its harmful effects.
He stated that when incidents occur, everyone should stand by the victims and that if there is any suspicion of such behavior, law enforcement should be informed immediately.
The students expressed their gratitude and thanks to Bashundhara Shuvosangho for arranging such an informative event on two important issues.
They also shared their hope to continue working with the organization in future positive initiatives.
Chief guest Maulana Lutfor Rahman advised seeking immediate legal assistance in cases of digital platform-related crimes or incidents of eve-teasing.
He called on all levels of society to come forward and play a role in preventing such crimes.
