Bashundhara Shuvosangho has launched a sewing training programme for the underprivileged women in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat to make them self-reliant.
Sajmun Nahar Khandaker, head teacher of a government primary school, inaugurated the three-month training programme as the chief guest at her school in Madanpur area of the upazila on Friday. A total of 15 women are taking part in the sewing training.
The inaugural event was attended by Kaler Kantho district correspondent Haider Ali Babu, teacher Arifa Sultana, trainer Sabita Roy, Rakib Islam and Shuvosangho member Sushmita Chakraborty.
Sajmun Nahar Khandaker said that the initiative to make poor women prosperous is one of the great initiatives of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
"Women participating in the training would be able to stand on their own feet after completion of their training," she said.
Trainee Samina Akhter expressed her gratitude to Bashundhara Shuvosangho as the social organisation has given scope to the impoverished women to take part in the training programme.
