In a bid to enhance soil fertility and raise awareness about the banned use of polythene, Bashundhara Shuvosangho launched a campaign in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhli on Wednesday.
As part of the campaign, a discussion was held at Kashem Ali Khan Residential School in Kolapara Municipality at 10:00 am, where students were engaged on actions needed to build a cleaner society.
Headmaster of the school Abdul Hafiz presided over the event.
Addressing the occasion, he said, "Polythene and plastic have become a curse for us. To prevent an environmental disaster, we must halt polythene use immediately and find alternatives. Jute products, in this regard, could be a blessing. By exporting jute products, Bangladesh has the potential to earn substantial foreign currency."
Among others, the director of the school Md Ibrahim Khan, advisor of Kolapara Shubhosangho Jasim Parvez, general secretary Tanzil Zaman Joy, social worker and cultural activist Md Janibul Haque also spoke.
After the meeting, inspired teachers, students, and Bashundhara Shubhosangho members collected discarded polythene from the school premises and burned it. A commitment was made to stop using polythene and focus on alternatives.
They also pledged to prevent polythene from being discarded in residential yards, school campuses, or other areas, vowing to create a cleaner society through the collection and burning of polythene.
