BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said, "There may be differences among our political parties, but if a problem arises, we will sit for discussions. Unity must be maintained and uphold at any cost, so that the fallen dictatorship cannot sit on our shoulders.”
He said this while speaking as the chief guest joining virtually at the Iftar Mahfil organized by the 12-party alliance in honor of the leaders of the political parties in Malibagh in the capital on Saturday.
Tarique Rahman said, “Even though the ideology is different, we are one for the country and the people of the country.”
He said, “A bizzare situation has been created: reforms and elections are being brought face to face. Democracy is to elect without fear. Yet it is being brought face to face with reforms. Many say there will be no elections before reforms. Reforms do not end. This is an ongoing process.”
The BNP Acting Chairman also said, “Ignoring the bloodshot eyes of dictatorship, we gave 31 points to repair the state structure two years ago. BNP's main goal is to work for the country and its people.”
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar, Nagorik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) member secretary Akhter Hossain, BNP standing committee Member Begum Selima Rahman, AB Party president Mojibur Rahman Manju, BLDP leader Shahadat Hossain Selim, and JSD general secretary Shahidul Islam Swapan also spoke at the Iftar Mahfil, chaired by Jatiya Party Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haidad.
