Netflix continues to solidify its presence in the anime industry, with more than half of its global subscribers having watched at least one anime title in 2024. At this year’s AnimeJapan, the streaming giant showcased an impressive slate of anime content, revealing new details about upcoming releases and treating fans to exclusive previews.
During a special 30-minute stage event, popular voice actors including Chiaki Kobayashi (Moonrise), Chikahiro Kobayashi (BEASTARS Final Season), Yu Kobayashi (Arcane), and My Melody from My Melody & Kuromi shared their experiences and excitement about their respective projects.
The highly anticipated sci-fi series Moonrise captivated audiences with the release of a brand-new trailer and key visual. Additional voice cast members were also announced, including AiNA THE END as Mary, Misaki Yamada as Rhys Rochelle, and Takehito Koyasu as Wise Crowne.
Fans of BEASTARS can look forward to the final season’s Part 2, with two new images from Part 1 revealed during the event. Meanwhile, Sanrio’s beloved My Melody delighted attendees by taking the stage to celebrate the upcoming stop-motion series My Melody & Kuromi, set to debut in July.
The critically acclaimed Arcane, based on Riot Games’ League of Legends, also made an appearance, with Netflix confirming that both Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on the platform.
Launching on April 3, Devil May Cry is a brand-new animated adaptation of Capcom’s action-packed game series. Produced by Adi Shankar and animated by Studio Mir, the show features a stellar cast, with Toshiyuki Morikawa voicing protagonist Dante, Fumiko Orikasa as Lady, and Hiroaki Hirata as Vergil.
A special Netflix lineup video highlighted both ongoing and upcoming anime titles, including SAKAMOTO DAYS, Blue Box, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, and Babanba Banban Vampire. Fans can also anticipate Fire Force Season 3, Record of Ragnarok III, Leviathan, and The Summer Hikaru Died, whose trailer was unveiled during the event.
Beyond new releases, Netflix is actively engaging with the anime industry. On March 24, a panel discussion titled "Japanese Anime Captivating the World - TMS Entertainment / MAPPA / Netflix Take on the Challenge" will be held at the AnimeJapan 2025 Business Seminar. Netflix’s Vice President of Content for Japan, Kaata Sakamoto, will join representatives from two of Japan’s leading animation studios, Kotaro Yoshikawa (Senior Vice President, TMS Entertainment) and Manabu Otsuka (President, MAPPA), to discuss anime’s global appeal and evolving industry trends.
As Netflix expands its anime portfolio, fans worldwide can look forward to an exciting mix of action, adventure, and heartfelt storytelling in the year ahead.
