To ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers on roads, highways, bridges, and railways during the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, trucks, covered vans, and lorries will be prohibited from operating on highways for six days—three days before Eid and three days after.
This decision was made during a meeting held at the Bijoy Hall of Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka on March 9, presided over by the adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Railways.
Subsequently, on March 16, a notice was signed by Jasim Uddin, assistant secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division, in this regard. Copies of the letter were sent to the relevant offices with instructions to implement the decision.
According to the meeting's decision, trucks, covered vans, and lorries will be prohibited from operating on highways from March 25 to March 28, as well as for three days after Eid.
However, vehicles carrying essential food items, perishable goods, garments, medicines, fertilizers, and fuel will be exempt from this restriction.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has been directed to issue a public notice to inform everyone and take necessary actions to implement the decision.
