The news of 33 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members went missing during an operation in the Naf River, near the Myanmar border, is nothing but a rumor-based propaganda, BGB stated in a verified Facebook post on Saturday night.
BGB clarified, “Various social media platforms are spreading false information claiming that 33 BGB members went missing in the Naf River during a mission over the past two days. BGB’s attention has been drawn to this rumor-driven propaganda. The information circulating on social media is baseless and malicious.”
According to BGB, early Saturday morning, a boat carrying Rohingyas was attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally via the sea near the west of Shah Porir Island in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Due to strong currents, the boat capsized on the way. Upon receiving the news, BGB members on duty at the shore immediately rushed to the spot with local fishermen. They managed to rescue 24 Rohingyas alive. During the rescue operation, one BGB member slipped into the turbulent sea.
BGB further mentioned in the Facebook post that the entire incident was tragic. The rescue operation to find the missing BGB member and other Rohingyas is still underway.
