Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and valiant freedom fighter Syed Sirajul Islam passed away on Monday.
He was 75.
Sirajul breathed his last at 9:30 am on Monday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital, according to a press release from the Police Headquarters.
He was survived by his wife, three sons numerous admirers and relatives to mourn his death.
Sirajul will be buried today in the family graveyard at Baliadanga village under Sadar Thana in Magura district.
The namaj-e-janaja of the deceased was held at SI Shiru Mia Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines at 10 am today.
The IGP of Bangladesh Police, Baharul Alam, senior police officers, and members and relatives of the deceased took part in the janaja.
After the janaja, the IGP paid tribute by placing flowers on the coffin of the deceased.
Later, leaders of the Bangladesh Police Service Association and Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association also paid tribute to the deceased by offering flowers.
The deceased was given an official funeral.
Late Syed Sirajul Islam joined the Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1973. He was DIG of Rajshahi and Khulna Range and Police Commissioner of Rajshahi. He performed his duties with great efficiency throughout his career.
He was born in 1949 in a respectable Muslim family in Baliadanga village under Sadar Thana of Magura district.
