The Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) and the Forest Department have signed a 40-year agreement to renew the lease for rubber plantations.
A media releases signed by Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Ministry’s Public Relation Officer Dipankar Bar reads that the agreement signing ceremony took place on Tuesday at the ministry’s conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The event was graced by the chief guest, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Water Resources.
Over the years, the Forest Department has officially transferred 38,184.48 acres of land for 18 rubber plantations to BFIDC.
On behalf of the Forest Department, Chief Conservator of Forests Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury signed the agreement, while BFIDC Chairman Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed signed on behalf of the corporation.
Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry, along with senior officials from both organizations were present at the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, the Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted that the lease renewal was initiated by the ministry since the previous agreement had expired in 2003.
She emphasized that this renewal would enhance government revenue, resolve legal complexities related to land encroachment, and contribute significantly to maintaining climate balance through natural rubber cultivation.
