The court has postponed the verdict of 8 people including Arav Khan, a fugitive gold trader in Dubai, in the murder case of Special Branch (SB) inspector Mamun Imran Khan.
The verdict in the case was scheduled to be announced in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib on Tuesday. However, the judge set a new date for the announcement of the verdict as the verdict was not ready.
Earlier, the case was scheduled for verdict on March 5. However, as the verdict was not ready that day either, the verdict was set for March 18. Bench assistant of the concerned court Jahurul Faiz informed it to the media.
The other accused in the case are Suraiya Akhter Keya (21), Imran's friend Rahmat Ullah (35), Swapan Sarkar (39), Didar Pathan (21), Mizan Sheikh (21), Atiq Hasan (21) and Sarwar Hossain (23).
The court fixed the date of the verdict after the arguments of the state and the defense on February 18.
According to the case sources, the body of Mamun Imran Khan was recovered from the jungles of Gazipur on July 9, 2018. Mamun's brother Jahangir Alam Khan filed a murder case with the capital's Banani Police Station as the plaintiff in the incident. The investigation officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman, submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court on April 8, 2019.
The court framed charges against the accused on November 25, 2021. Out of 38 witnesses in the case, 26 gave testimony in the court.
