Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said a group of masked people who never supported the war for independence are trying to mislead country people with false information.
“While Ziaur Rahman fought for freedom, another group sided with Pakistan in the war in the name of protecting Pakistan’s integrity,” said the BNP leader, adding that the group now is determining what people need to do and what to know.
He made the statement at Rangpur Shilpakala Academy auditorium while addressing an assembly as the chief guest, organized by Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ulama Dal.
Referring to Jamaat-e-Islami, Dudu said: “If the party contests the elections with BNP, it will get 18 to 19 seats. If it contests alone, it will not get more than two to three. What have they done that people will work for them?”
He said: “We have a lot of pain, suffering and demands. Before that, the party has to come to power. Now Awami League (AL) is being compared with BNP. They say AL has eaten; another party is waiting to eat.”
“The hint goes towards BNP. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has served jail time, millions of leaders and activists, scholars, students, youth, workers, and hardworking people have served jail time. BNP’s Abdus Salam Pintu has been sentenced to death.”
He added that during the last 16 to 18 years, 6 million BNP leaders and activists have been accused and tortured in 250,000 cases and have been forcefully disappeared.
The BNP Vice Chairman said: “We want national integrity against fascism. Therefore we don’t want to make statements that divide us.”
During this time he emphasized on Ulama’s role in uniting people.
