BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the interim government is gradually failing to control the daily essentials.
“The interim government is failing to give relief to the common people. The additional burden will be put on the mass people for increasing VAT on more than 100 products. This can affect the people’s confidence in the government,” he said.
Rizvi made the remarks during a press conference on Saturday at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
The senior leader of the party said they (govt) so far can’t break the market syndicate. The people are perplexed due to the high prices of the essential commodities. The people are struggling to bear the daily expenses of the family.
He said the government has increased Value Added Tax (VAT) on more than 100 products and services in mid-way of the 2024-25 fiscal year ‘to add insult to injury’ amid the hike of the daily necessities. It will increase the cost of the people’s livelihood.
Rizvi also said that businessmen are still recovering from the huge loss due to political changeover after the mass uprising of students and people. In this situation, rising VAT is suicidal. The government has increased the VAT during high inflation in the country.
